Process-based modeling of groundwater flow and transport in karst with MODFLOW-CFP, openKARST and PyKasso
Lecturers: Thomas Reimann, Steffen Birk, Jannes Kordilla, Philippe Renard
Duration: One full day
Course overview: This course covers the fundamental concepts of groundwater flow and solute transport modeling in karst systems using the discrete-continuum approach implemented in MODFLOW-CFP and openKARST. The underlying processes and their implementation in the software are introduced and discussed. Hands-on exercises provide applied insights.
A further focus is placed on script-based modeling workflows using Python. This includes the CFPy interface to MODFLOW-CFP, openKARST, and the stochastic conduit network generator PyKasso. Selected example applications provide insights into potential use cases and practical model implementations.
Who should attend: Current and prospective users of discrete-continuum numerical models to simulate groundwater flow and transport in karst systems.
Course materials: Extensive course materials with slides, tutorials, and interactive educational documents will be provided.
Maximum number of participants: 30
