Several short courses are organized on Sunday 30th of August.
Cost: 70 CHF / person including lunch and cofees
Short course A – LuKARS
Lecturers: Dr.-Ing. Beatrice Richier (FAU Erlangen), M.Sc. Kübra Özdemir Çallı, and Prof. Andreas Hartmann (TU Dresden)
Title: Modelling flow, uncertainty, and transport processes in karst aquifers: theory and practical applications with the LuKARS model.
This full‑day short course provides a comprehensive introduction to modelling karst systems, combining semi‑distributed hydrological modelling of flow processes and uncertainty with conceptual and advanced modelling of solute and contaminant transport in both the unsaturated and saturated zones.
Short course B – NuMoKarst
Title: Process-based modeling of groundwater flow and transport in karst with MODFLOW-CFP, openKARST and PyKasso
Lecturers: Thomas Reimann (TU Dresden), Steffen Birk (Univ. Graz), Jannes Kordilla (CSIC Barcelona), Philippe Renard (Uni. Neuchâtel)
This course covers the fundamental concepts of groundwater flow and solute transport modeling in karst systems using the discrete-continuum approach implemented in MODFLOW-CFP and openKARST. The underlying processes and their implementation in the software are introduced and discussed. A further focus is placed on script-based modeling workflows using Python. Hands-on exercises provide applied insights. This includes the CFPy interface to MODFLOW-CFP, openKARST, and the stochastic conduit network generator PyKasso.
